Hapag-Lloyd’s crew reported the presence of 10 illegal passengers on board their German-flagged containership Rotterdam Express last week. The said passengers boarded the vessel in an attempt to smuggle 185 kgs of cocaine.

The ship was near the port of Cartagena at the time and the crew alerted the Colombian naval and coast guard units who were immediately dispatched to assist the crew.

On inspecting the vessel, the smugglers were identified and the authorities seized the cocaine. The 66,975 dwt Rotterdam Express then continued on its voyage.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
