The former head of Eitzen Holding has formed a new shipping company and acquired the Herning Shipping fleet from Nordic Tankers. Axel Eitzen’s new company ANE Shipping has taken ownership of Herning Shipping’s 19-vessel fleet of tankers, 12 of which are owned, for an undisclosed sum.
The Danish tanker fleet has traditionally operated in Europe and West Africa. A statement from Nordic Tankers said Herning Shipping would be renamed Christiana Shipping, where Mr Eitzen will act as chief executive.
“I am very pleased with the establishment of our new company and with the acquisition of a well-respected and competent team from Herning Shipping,” Eitzen said. “I look forward to further building on Herning Shipping’s strong relations with existing and potential customers, and to develop a solid foundation for future business.”
ANE Shipping is a partnership made up of Eitzen’s Camillo Eitzen & Co, Castel AS, led by Erik Bartnes and the Seahorse Maritime investment company headed by Nicolai Heidenreich.
The Nordic Tankers business has undergone a reshuffle recently, with the group’s Crystal Nordic arm being taken over by Essberger Tankers, owned by German shipping group John T Essberger/Deutsche Afrika-Linien.
