In a deal worth USD 982.6 million, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured an order for the construction of 6 ultra large container vessels (ULCVs).

SHI stated that the newbuildings are to be delivered by December 2019.

However, the shipbuilder did not disclose the buyer. In addition, the value of the contract is dependent upon the owner’s choice of available propulsion systems for the ships.

Last week, DSME confirmed an order for five 22,000 TEU vessels which points to the conclusion that the orwas placed by MSC as part of a bid to add eleven mega box ships to its fleet.
