OOCL received the 2020 Information Visionary award at this year’s IDC Digital Transformation Awards (DX Awards) Hong Kong that recognizes the new advancements made to its MyOOCLReefer solution. Organized by IDC Hong Kong, the DX Awards puts the spotlight on outstanding organizations that have made important breakthroughs in their digital transformation journey.

First launched in 2017, the IDC DX Awards received over 1,200 nominations across different participating countries and regions this year. In the seven award categories, each recognizing achievements in different aspects, the Information Visionary award pays tribute to an organization that excels in leveraging data and information to enhance its business decision-making capabilities and improve overall competitive advantage.

In 2019, OOCL launched an upgraded version of its MyOOCLReefer solution which provides customers with advanced visibility to critical information of their reefer cargo such as temperature, humidity, location, smart alerts for discrepancies and more accurate Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) readings. Powered by technology solution provider CargoSmart, the MyOOCLReefer solution leverages the latest technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), mobile and telematic devices and the company’s Global Vessel Voyage Monitoring Center, (which monitors and processes a massive amount of vessel and terminal related data), so that shippers will have timely information to ensure they make the right decision and adjustments to their shipment and inventory management and thus improve their overall supply chain performance.

On behalf of OOCL, Michael Fitzgerald, Deputy Chief Financial Officer of OOCL said: “We continuously strive to innovate with emerging technologies in agile ways to improve our services, and it is an honor to receive the Information Visionary award. At OOCL, we believe that digital transformation is essential. We will continue to invest in new technologies to evolve and enhance our services for our customers.”

As the solution provider, Steve Siu, Chief Executive Officer of CargoSmart Limited said: “Companies that adopt digital technologies can increase their agility. We are pleased that OOCL is experiencing the value of CargoSmart’s Internet of Things solutions that offer greater visibility and service to its customers through its digital transformation initiatives.”

“The MyOOCLReefer solution is of great help to my company when it comes to monitoring our fruit shipments from China to Canada to meet stringent regulatory requirements. The high visibility enables us to ensure the quality of my cargo can be sustained throughout the journey, both on land and at sea. Besides, the readily available IoT data can be used as proof to show the temperature of the cargo during the entire shipment process. I would highly recommend OOCL and its MyOOCLReefer solution to all reefer shippers.” said Simon Chen, Managing Director of Chenfield Limited, who was one of the satisfied users of MyOOCLReefer.

“The urgency to digitally transform has become clearer than ever, with organizations in Hong Kong and across the Asia/Pacific region accelerating the DX of business processes, operations and customer engagement initiatives. By leveraging data-driven approaches, and through the use of AI/analytics and other technologies like IoT, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has not only derived substantial benefits to its business and customers, but also it has achieved greater resilience in its operations. We are pleased to award OOCL as the Hong Kong’s 2020 Information Visionary.” said Daniel-Zoe Jimenez, AVP and Head of Digital Transformation at IDC Asia/Pacific.
