UAE Bans Micronesian-Flagged Ships

The Federal Transport Authority (FTA) of United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that it will not endorse any ships or seafarers certificates issued under Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).

The FTA attributed its decision to the FSM not having an international ship registry.

As FSM does not have an international ships registry, all vessels flagged by the FSM are banned from entering UAE waters and ports, the FTA said on Monday (October 31).
The FTA recently banned ships of Indian LPG carrier company ‘Varun’ from entering UAE waters, owing to repeat cases of seafarer abandonment.

This apart, the authority has initiated a pact with the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) to develop a protocol for closer working relationships and information exchange.
